The artist Fung Yow Chork had devoted his paintings to the theme of local landscapes, translating the forms of nature through his deft brushstrokes. Executed in a refined colour palette, the artist focuses on the scenic view of our local mountains and its lush surroundings. The facade of the rocks was expressed through the solid brushwork. Fung Yow Chork is considered one of the finest impressionists in the country. At the age of 13, he was taught by a teacher who had studied Impressionism in Japan. He befriended Professor Chung Pak Mook of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore. Some of his solo exhibitions were held at The Art Gallery, Penang (1998), Rupa Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (1983), Australian High Commission, Kuala Lumpur (1982), Chin Woo Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (1981). He was awarded Second Prize, Merdeka Independence Trade Fair's Art and Photographic Exhibition (1957).
