He was a member of the Imperial Fine Arts Academy and a member of the Art Committee of the Imperial Household. This painting depicts an imaginary Chinese mountain landscape in the mist, with a scholar and his attendant viewing at a waterfall. Light colors indicate spring time. Vertical compositions on narrow scale were characteristic for Tessai. The rather light colors depict a mild spring day in refined brushwork.
