Yow Chork presents a remarkable rendition of the local landscape, enhanced with the treatment of light. His skill for creating poetic landscape compositions is evident here with the rustic faceted textures of the hillside portrayed with warmth and refinement. A gorgeous balance between the trees and rocky terrain on a beautiful sunlit day is recorded, filled with a sense of peace and comfort. Fung Yow Chork is considered one of the finest impressionists in the country. At the age of 13, he was taught by a teacher who had studied Impressionism in Japan. He befriended Professor Chung Pak Mook of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore. Some of his solo exhibitions were held at The Art Gallery, Penang (1998), Rupa Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (1983), Australian High Commission, Kuala Lumpur (1982), Chin Woo Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (1981). He was awarded Second Prize, Merdeka Independence Trade Fair's Art and Photographic Exhibition (1957).
